About Our Organization

The Midnight Mission offers a path to self-sufficiency to men, women and children who have lost everything. Our emergency services, 12-step recovery program, job training, education and work programs offer a compassionate bridge to productive lives. We remove obstacles to self-sufficiency and provide the accountability and structure that people who are experiencing homelessness need to rejoin their communities. Our conviction and commitment to their success define us.

The Midnight Mission Programs & Services:

Approximately 200 program participants receive free room and board, meals and necessities while they are enrolled in our recovery program. Participants are assigned to certified counselors and together they structure individual case management plans to address the issues that have brought them to The Midnight Mission. The program subscribes to the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step principles and mandates meeting requirements.

The aim for the Educational Training Program is to become a springboard from which individuals can discover their potential. We believe that all men, regardless of past education, can and need to spend time developing skills that will propel them in a positive direction, giving them the necessary tools to become contributing, self-sufficient members of society. We offer GED preparation, introductory computer classes and specialized vocational and certificate programs. The Midnight Mission is fortunate to have wonderful volunteers to implement and teach interviewing skill classes and more.

More than 65% of The Midnight Missionís workforce is comprised of participants in the Work Therapy Program. The participants give back to the homeless and near-homeless community by helping to run our programs and services. A stipend is given and allows the individual an opportunity to practice financial responsibility. Participants are required to save 70% of their income while they live at The Midnight Mission in order to have a savings when leaving the program.

The Midnight Missionís Family Housing complex is away from Skid Row and serves battered and abused families along with homeless and near-homeless families who come to The Midnight Mission in crisis. One, two and three bedroom apartments are available to parents and children. They receive shelter, counseling, childcare, basic necessities and protection. We teach budget development and fiscal management. We also require that they establish a savings account. The Midnight Mission maintains an interest bearing account for the family, allowing them to leave the program with a substantial savings account.
